Bedford Swan Hotel is putting local produce on the plates of diners including a whopping 1,000 sausages a week. Laid end-to-end that is nearly one kilometre of sausages a week!
The hotel has placed the bumper banger order with Summerhill Farm Shop of Cardington after matchmaking by Sue Miller of Taste Real Food. When Bedford Swan Hotel joined the Taste Real Food group it pledged support for local producers. The relationship has resulted in two food and drink fayres - including an 18th Century Beer Festival which attracted 100s of visitors.
Another link was Summerhill's offer to produce a special version of their Bedfordshire Banger to be served up at breakfast, lunch and dinner at the Bedford Swan Hotel, which welcomes non-resident visitors to the riverside restaurant.
Sue Miller from Taste Real Food said: "This shows that buying local can work for restaurants and suppliers - we are delighted to have brought them together."
Richard Sanders, Master Butcher of Summerhill said: "It's great to know when people are eating at the best hotel in Bedford they are eating our Bedfordshire sausages."
